The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has demolished the infrastructure of 13 illegal housing schemes in Lahore.
Authority’s land subdivisions have demolished the infrastructure during a grand operation in different areas of Lahore.
LDA’s Directorate of Metropolitan Planning III demolished permanent constructions, roads, sewerage, electric poles, and other infrastructures of illegal housing schemes and land subdivisions on BRB Canal Road and in the surroundings of Bheni Road and Manawan Police Station.
LDA teams also sealed the offices of these illegal housing schemes and land subdivisions after the demolition operation.
The sealed housing schemes/land subdivisions include New Ghaus Garden, Ghaus Garden Phase-V, Greenland Orchards, Musa Garden, Zam Zam City, Al-Bari City, Arham Residensia, Al-Ghani Garden Phase-VII, Greenland Valley, Arabian City, Al-Falah City, KS Homes, Ali Villas, Ameer City and Al-Wahab Garden Phase-III.
LDA Claim:
According to the LDA officials, several notices were served on the owners of these housing schemes/land subdivisions before carrying out the operation.
LDA Chief Metropolitan Planner (CMP) supervised the operations carried out by the enforcement teams with the help of the Police and heavy machinery.
LDA Director General Tahir Farooq has directed continuing indiscriminate operations against illegal housing schemes and land subdivisions across Lahore.
Recent flood in River Ravi has caused damage to thousands of homes built in the illegal societies in riverbed. Demands for action against land mafia have intensified since then. Many say the government should pay the damages as the authorities approved these illegal housing schemes. The Punjab government vowed that it would take strict actions against land grabbers but many dubbed it mere hollow claim.
Owners of housing societies and real estate tycoons are parts of the government. Many among them fund the political parties and double their income when the parties came to power. People believe the governments cannot take action against mega developers but they target only small societies.
