Pakistan will witness a total lunar eclipse “Blood Moon” on September 7 (Sunday).
The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) said the people can watch the eclipse at 8:30pm but it will reach at its peak at 11:57pm.
Scientists say lunar eclipses occur when earth comes directly between sun and moon. Hence the phenomena casts shadow on lunar surface. The lunar eclipses cause no harm to naked eyes, scientists say.
“Unlike solar eclipse, lunar eclipse is totally safe to watch with naked eye, telescopes and binoculars.”
People had witnessed the last total lunar eclipse in March 2025 and then back in 2022.
Asia, Africa and parts of Europe will observe the lunar eclipse on Sunday night, said the Suparco on Sunday. People in most parts of Pakistan, said a press release issued by the space agency, will observe the full eclipse. But, it is conditional to weather condition.
The event will start at 8:30pm, reach its maximum at 11:57pm, and conclude at 1:55am.

As the moon colour will turn total red, scientists also named the Sunday’s eclipse as “Blood Moon”.
“When the Sun, Earth and Moon line up, the shadow casts by the planet on its satellite makes it appear an eerie, deep red colour.” The scene, it said, astounded humans for millennia.
Scientists believe moon appears red during lunar eclipses because the only sunlight reaching it is reflected and scattered through the Earth’s atmosphere.
The moon’s brightness will begin to fade at 8:28pm on Sunday, said Pakistan Metrological Department. Partial eclipse, the PMD stated, will start at 9:27pm and the total eclipse will begin at 10:31pm. Millions of people will watch it through naked eye.
