Punjab CM Assigns CCD Task of Eliminating Illegal Weapons

Punjab chief minister Maryam Nawaz has assigned the responsibility of eliminating illegal weapons to the Crime Control Department (CCD) Punjab.

She directed the launch of a full-scale campaign against the weapons culture after Eidul Fitr.

For the first time in Punjab, the government has prepared a comprehensive law to curb the display and illegal use of weapons. The chief minister has approved The Punjab Surrender Illicit Arms Act 2026.

The new act includes provisions for eliminating all forms of illegal weapons. Even for licensed weapons kept for display inside homes, citizens will be required to obtain special permission.

After the enforcement of the new act, all illegal weapons must be surrendered to the Crime Control Department (CCD) within the stipulated period. The government has directed the licensed weapon holders to also provide a valid reason for possessing firearms.

The government has proposed strict penalties for those who fail to surrender illegal weapons within the given timeframe.

Security arrangements for Youm-e-Shahadat Hazrat Ali (RA):

The chief minister has directed authorities to ensure foolproof security arrangements across the province on the occasion of Youm-e-Shahadat of Ali ibn Abi Talib.

The chief minister instructed that authorities closely monitor the security measures for all processions and religious gatherings. She also directed police officers to continue supervision until the safe conclusion of all processions and majalis.

Maryam Nawaz further ordered that law enforcement agencies ensure special arrangements for the security of worshippers observing Itikaf in mosques during the last days of Ramadan.

She emphasised that all relevant departments should remain vigilant. And ensure the effective implementation of security measures to maintain peace and facilitate citizens during the religious observances.

Maryam expresses grief over the demise of brother of former Press Secretary to CM:

Punjab chief minister has expressed sorrow over the demise of Asim Bin Aziz. Late Aziz was the brother of noted poet and prose writer and former Press Secretary to the CM and former DGPR Shoaib Bin Aziz.

The chief minister extended her heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the bereaved family.
