Field Marshal Asim Munir Links Political Reconciliation to “Apology”

Field Marshal Asim Munir has linked the political reconciliation in Pakistan to a genuine apology, in an interview with Sohail Warraich.

The senior journalist shared the details of the conversation in his column for an Urdu daily. Many believe the remarks of the Pakistan’s most powerful figure were aimed at former prime minister Imran Khan. The incarcerated PTI founder and widely regarded as the country’s most popular political leader. The interview, however, did not specify who the question was and whom the COAS was referring to.

COAS described the reports of “chang in government” as rumours. He believed opponents of the government and the establishment were behind them.

“God made me this country’s guardian. I have no desire for any other position.”

Warnings to Modi and Afghanistan’s Taliban government:

COAS has warned the governments of India and Afghanistan against hatching conspiracies to destabilize Pakistan.

“Do not try to destroy peace in Pakistan through proxies,” senior Warraich quoted the Field Mashal as warning Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an interview in Brussels.

For Kabul, Munir wanted Afghan government to halt policies to push Taliban into Pakistan. “If they do not stop infiltration, it is our duty to avenge the blood of every Pakistani.”

COAS on China and USA:

COAS Asim said Islamabad has long-standing experience in maintaining balanced relations with Washinton and Beijing. He made it clear that Pakistan will not sacrifice one friend for the sake of another.

He appreciated US President Donald Trump role for peace, saying the government of Pakistan nominated the latter for Nobel Peace Prize for the very reason.

Pakistan, Field Marshal believed, will earn $two billion annual profits from Reko Diq next year with substantial increase every year. He said the country’s abundant mineral resources will play a key role in Pakistan’s economic development over next five to ten years.
