The water level in Pakistan’s major reservoirs is increasing gradually due to significant monsoon rains in the upper catchment areas of the rivers.
Currently, the Tarbela Dam is one foot below its maximum storage level, while the water levels at Mangla Dam and Chashma Barrage are continuously increasing.
Tarbela Dam:
The water level at Tarbela Dam reached 1549 feet above mean sea level on Wednesday morning with live storage of 5.671 million acre-feet. The present storage level is just a foot below the maximum conservation level of 1550 feet. Tarbela Dam’s minimum operating level is 1402 feet.
Mangla Dam:
The water level at the other main reservoir, Mangla Dam, is 1216.55 feet above mean sea level with live storage of 5.361 MAF. Mangla Dam’s maximum storage level and minimum operating level are 1242 feet and 1050 feet, respectively.
Chashma Barrage:
The water level at Chashma reached 639.5 feet with live storage of 0.019 MAF. Chashma’s maximum conservation level and minimum operating level are 649 feet and 638.15 feet, respectively.
