Incarcerated PTI founding chairman Imran Khan has predicted Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh-like uprising in Pakistan.
His sister Aleema Khan told journalists that the former prime minister believes Pakistan will witness a youth uprising as frustration grows every day.
“Imran said he had earlier predicted that people would vote for the PTI in General Election. So people voted for the PTI. Now he sees ahead a Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka-style protests in Pakistan,” Aleema said quoting the jailed leader. She was talking to journalists after attending Toshakhana-II Case trial in Adiala Jail Rawalpindi. She also met Imran Khan there.
Nepal has recently witnessed a Gen-Z uprising against corruption and social media ban. The youth-led protests toppled the government, paving the way for the caretaker setup. Caretaker Prime Minister Sushila Karki, the former chief justice, will conduct polls in March 2026. The student uprising in Bangladesh, famously known as July Revolution, overthrew Sheikh Hasina’s government in 2024. In Sri Lanka, the 2022 mass revolt, known as Aragalaya, brought an end to Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s regime.
Haqeeqi Azadi:
The PTI founder reiterated that the establishment could never break him and he would also never surrender his ‘Haqeeqi Azadi’- a term he coined to urge people to fight for their rights and free the country from establishment’s grip. Khan is widely regarded as the most popular leader in Pakistan. His party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), won the national polls in Feb 2024 in landslide despite ban its election symbol. But the polls’ results were allegedly hijacked, paving the way for the installation of a hybrid regime in Pakistan.
Aleema said Khan had directed the party leaders to shun fear and lodge protest demonstrations. “If they [PTI leaders] remain silent in the face of oppression, they will dig their own political graves,” she warned quoting Khan. Imran has directed all PTI leaders to ensure their participation in PTI mass rally in Peshawar (PTI Peshawar Jalsa) on September 27.
