Lahore, Islamabad, Pakistan Rains: Wet Spell To Continue

More monsoon rains are predicted in Lahore, Islamabad and parts of Pakistan on Monday evening and night, as well as on Tuesday.

Synoptic Situation:

A seasonal low-pressure system prevails over northern Balochistan. Strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate the upper and central parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave also affects most of the upper parts of the country.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Forecast:

Met office predicts widespread monsoon rains with heavy falls in Lahore and Islamabad. In northeast Punjab and Kashmir. It forecasts isolated rains in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and southeastern Sindh and eastern Balochistan. Met office expects muggy weather elsewhere in the country.

Impacts:

Landslides/mudslides may cause road closures in vulnerable areas of Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad. In Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur.  Widespread rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams. Authorities advised public to remain cautious.

Downpour may cause urban flooding in Narowal, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, Mandi Bahaudin, Gujranwala and Lahore. Heavy rains and strong winds may damage dilapidated buildings and structures like electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels.

Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 28°C and 30°C on Tuesday. And between 29°C and 31°C on Wednesday.

Islamabad’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 32°C and 34°C on Tuesday and between 33°C and 35°C on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, upper Sindh, northeast Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and Sibbi received isolated rains during the last 24 hours.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Upper Dir14, Malamjabba 05, Balakot 02

Gilgit-Baltistan: Skardu 05, Gilgit 02, Bunji 01

Dalbandin remained the hottest place in Pakistan with a maximum temperature of 42°C recorded. Nokundi, Sibbi and Dadu maximum temperature: 41°C.

Maximum temperature in Lahore: 28°C. Relative humidity during the morning: 88 per cent.

The maximum temperature in Islamabad was recorded at 32°C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 81 per cent.
