Lahore, Islamabad, Pakistan Weather: More Monsoon Rains Expected

More intermittent monsoon rains with heavy falls are expected in Islamabad, Lahore and parts of Pakistan on Sunday evening/night, Monday and Tuesday.

Synoptic Situation:

A seasonal low-pressure system lies over northern Balochistan. Met office predicts strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal will continuously penetrate the upper and central parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave also prevails over most upper parts of the country.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Forecast:

Met office forecasts more widespread monsoon rains in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore. Rains will fall in the northeastern and eastern Punjab. And in Potohar region Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Metrological department says isolated heavy rains may fall are in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and northeastern Punjab. Southeast Sindh may also witness rainfall.

Impacts and Advises:

Torrential rains will likely generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Chitral, Dir and Swat. In Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Manshera, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi and Mardan. Met office predicts flash floods in Murree, Galiyat and Islamabad/Rawalpindi. And northeast Punjab and Kashmir. People in hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan may also witness flash flooding.

Downpour may cause urban flooding in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Peshawar, Nowshera and Mardan. Landslides/mudslides may cause road closures in the vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir.

Heavy rains and windstorms may damage dilapidated buildings, electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels.

Islamabad and Lahore’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 32°C and 34°C on Monday and Tuesday.

Meanwhile, rains of varying intensities have been reported in the twin cities, Lahore and parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit, Baltistan and Kashmir.
