Netanyahu’s Big Yes to Greater Israel

Netanyahu has very much attached to the vision of Greater Israel, antiwar.com has stated.

The story of the popular website quoted Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s interview to Israel’s tv i24.

“Very much,” replied the reply to Israeli PM when the interviewer asked him, “Do you feel connection to the expansionist vision?” Reports say the interviewer gifted Netanyahu an amulet showing “Greater Israel.”  However, it is unknown how far the amulet depicts Israel’s territory.

Far-right groups and individuals in Israel have long been propagating the Greater Israel slogan. Many among them draw inspiration from Theodor Herzl’s century’s old statement. Herzl is considered as the father of modern political Zionism and the spiritual father of the Jewish state. His statement read: “Discussed with Bodenheimer the demands we will make. Area: from the Brook of Egypt to the Euphrates.”

According to far-right groups’ biblical inspiration, Greater Israel includes Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia. Many referring Israeli PM’s latest Occupy Gaza campaign is part of the agenda.

Israeli politician Avi Lipkin often propagate the idea. His comments he made last year went viral, inviting widespread criticism from MENA region. Lipkin has satated: … eventually, our borders will extend from Lebanon to the Great Desert, which is Saudi Arabia, and then from the Mediterranean to the Euphrates. And who is on the other side of the Euphrates? The Kurds! And the Kurds are friends. So we have Mediterranean behind us, the Kurds in front of us, Lebanon, which really needs the umbrella of protection of Israel, and then we’re gonna take, I believe we’re gonna take Mecca, Medina and Mount Sinai, and to purify those places.

However, moderate voices within the vast majority of the Jewish community give no weight to the idea. They call it a myth and misinformation, dangerous to the concept of a welfare state.
