Pakistan, Afghanistan Agree to 48-Hour Ceasefire, Plan Talks

Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed on a ceasefire, media reports say, citing the Pakistan Foreign Office.

The Afghan government requested the ceasefire. Reports say the ceasefire will  remain in place for the next 48 hours.

The agreement between Islamabad and Kabul comes after several days of border clashes. “Pakistan and Afghanistan will find the solution to the problem through mutual talks,” the Foreign Office stated.

Analysts believe China played a role in facilitating the ceasefire. Beijing previously expressed concern over tensions between Islamabad and Kabul and called for calm.

Islamabad says the Afghan government is exporting terrorism into Pakistan. “Kabul provides shelter to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a terrorist organization involved in violence, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.”

Strikes in Kandahar:

Earlier today, Pakistan armed forces conducted precision strikes in Kabul and Kandahar provinces.

“Pakistan Army destroyed key hideouts in Afghanistan in retaliatory actions,” Pakistan state television PTV posted on X. The strikes reportedly destroyed Afghan Taliban Battalion Number 4 and Border Brigade Number 6, killing dozens of Afghan and foreign operatives.

A separate post stated the army targeted Afghan Taliban Battalion Headquarters No. 4, Battalion 8, and Border Brigade No. 5 in Kandahar,

Strikes in Kabul:

The army affirmed its readiness to respond decisively to any external aggression.

PTV reported that Pakistan Army targeted the leadership center of Fitna al-Hindustan in Kabul.

Fitna al-Hindustan is a term used by Pakistan to describe terrorist organizations “operating from Afghanistan with India’s backing.”

State media said Pakistan Army possesses the full capability to give a befitting response to any external aggression.

“All these targets were meticulously selected, isolated from civilian populations, and successfully destroyed,” the post read.

Border Clashes in Balochistan:

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) separately stated that security forces repulsed an attack by the Afghan Taliban along the Balochistan border. Armed forces killed around 15 to 20 militants in action against Taliban.
