Pakistan Weather: Heavy Monsoon Rains Predicted From August 18

Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted countrywide monsoon rains from August 18.

The wet spell, it says, will continue intermittently throughout the upcoming week.

According to the synoptic situation, monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are penetrating the upper parts of Pakistan. Moist currents from the Bay of Bengal will likely intensify on August 17. A westerly wave, affecting the upper parts, is expected to intensify on August 17.

Under these meteorological conditions, countrywide monsoon rains are predicted during the upcoming week.

Punjab/Islamabad:

Intermittent rains with scattered heavy to very heavy falls are predicted in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rajanpur and Rahimyar Khan from August 18 to August 21.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:

Met office predict intermittent rains with scattered heavy to very heavy falls in Dir, Chitral and Swat. They will fall in Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra and Abbottabad. Similarly, in Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan and Swabi. And in Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan, Tank and Dera Ismail Khan during the above-mentioned period.

Kashmir/Gilgit-Baltistan:

Met office predicts intermittent rains with scattered heavy to very heavy falls in Neelum Valley and Muzaffarabad. In Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur, Diamir and Astore. And in Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar during the above-mentioned period.

Sindh:

Met Office predicts intermittent rains with isolated heavy falls in Tharparker, Umer Kot, and Mirpurkhas. In Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal and Tando Allahyar. And in Tando Muhammad Khan, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur and Jacobabad from August 18 to August 22.

Balochistan:

Intermittent rains with isolated heavy falls are predicted in Barkhan, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibbi, Zhob, Qilla Saifullah, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Kech, Gawadar and Panjgur during the above-mentioned period.

Impacts:

Widespread rains may cause flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Chitral and Dir. In Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad and Buner. And in Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, northeast Punjab and Kashmir. Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Peshawar and Nowshera.
