Pakistan Weather: Monsoon’s Eighth Spell To Begin On August 23

Monsoon’s eighth spell will begin in Pakistan on August 23, PMD says on Friday.

It predicted torrential rains in the upper and central parts from August 23 to August 27 with occasional gaps.

Heavy rains are expected in Sindh and eastern/southern Balochistan from August 27 to August 29.

Synoptic situation: Strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea & Bay of Bengal will penetrate the upper parts of the country from August 22. A westerly wave will also approach the upper parts on August 22.

Punjab / Islamabad:

Met office predicted widespread rains with scattered heavy and at times hefty from 23rd to 27th August in Islamabad/Rawalpindi. During the period, rains likely fall in Murree, Galiyat, Attock and Chakwal. In Jhelum and Mandi Bahauddin. In Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura. And in Sialkot, Narowal, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad and Sahiwal. .

Scattered rains with isolated heavy falls are also likely in D.G. Khan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan. And in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rajanpur and Rahimyar Khan on 24th & 27th August.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:

Widespread rains with scattered heavy and at times hefty falls are expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan, Tank and Dera Ismail Khan from 23rd to 26th August.

Kashmir / Gilgit-Baltistan:

Widespread rains with scattered heavy and at times hefty falls are expected in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur from 23rd to 27th. Rains with isolated heavy falls are likely in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar.

Sindh:

Pakistan Metrological Department predicted rains in Mithi, Tharparkar and Umer Kot. And in Mirpurkhas from 23rd (evening/night) to 26th August.

Balochistan:

Met office says rains likely fall in Barkhan, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibbi, Zhob, Kalat & Khuzdar from 23rd (evening/night) to 26th August.

Impacts:

Torrential rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. And in Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, northeast Punjab, Kashmir and hill torrents of D.G. Khan.

Downpour may cause urban flooding in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Peshawar, Nowshera and Mardan.

Landslides/mudslides may cause road closures in vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir.
