Pakistan’s major reservoir, the Tarbela Dam, has reached its maximum storage capacity.
On Thursday, the water level at Tarbela Dam reached 1550 feet above mean sea level. Yesterday, the water level was just one foot below the highest storage limit.
The water levels in Pakistan’s reservoirs were gradually rising due to widespread rains in the upper catchment areas of major rivers and their tributaries.
Water levels at other reservoirs, Mangla Dam and Chashma Barrage, are also continuously increasing.
Tarbela Dam:
The water level at Tarbela Dam reached 1550 feet above mean sea level on Thursday morning with live storage of 5.728 million acre-feet. Tarbela Dam’s minimum operating level is 1402 feet.
Mangla Dam:
The water level at the other main reservoir, Mangla Dam, is 1217.45 feet above mean sea level with live storage of 5.423 MAF. Mangla Dam’s maximum storage level and minimum operating level are 1242 feet and 1050 feet, respectively.
Chashma Barrage:
The water level at Chashma reached 643.3 feet with live storage of 0.094 MAF. Chashma’s maximum conservation level and minimum operating level are 649 feet and 638.15 feet, respectively.
