Research-driven Leadership Key to Strengthen Healthcare System

Medical experts have highlighted the critical role of advanced research and quality leadership in strengthening Pakistan’s healthcare system.

Speaking at the medical conference PGMI-AMCON 2025 at the Lahore General Hospital (LGH), they noted that ethical and research-driven leadership strengthens healthcare institutions, as medical decisions directly impact human lives.

Speakers said that strong leadership ensures discipline and improved patient care in hospitals. Former Health Minister Prof Javed Akram, Member BoM PGMI Dr Shabana Haider, Prof Tariq Salahuddin, Prof Sardar Muhammad Al-Farid Zafar, Prof Muhammad Nazir and ED PINS Prof Asif Bashir were the guests of honour. They praised PGMI’s academic and research contributions and expressed hope that the presented research papers would serve as a guiding light for young doctors.

Renowned medical scientist and pioneer of test-tube baby technology in Pakistan, Prof Rashid Latif Khan, urged young doctors to align themselves with international medical advancements to provide world-class healthcare facilities to the public.

Principal Ameer-ud-Din Medical College Prof Farooq Afzal stated that effective clinical decisions are impossible without research. He urged doctors to adopt evidence-based research as an integral part of their professional training, stating that quality education and internationally recognised research are vital for the nation’s brighter future.

At the conclusion of the conference, Prof Farooq Afzal presented commemorative shields to the distinguished guests and reaffirmed PGMI’s commitment to promoting medical education, research, and quality leadership through academic initiatives.
