Widespread monsoon rains with scattered heavy and at times hefty falls are expected in Islamabad, Lahore and parts of Punjab on Sunday evening/night and during the coming week with occasional gaps.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD): Strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are continuously penetrating Pakistan. Low Pressure System (LPA) over the Bay of Bengal will likely move westward on August 17, intensifying the monsoon activity. A westerly wave also prevails over the country.
Monsoon in Punjab Northern and Central:
Widespread monsoon rains with scattered heavy and at times hefty falls expected in: Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock and Chakwal. Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Wazirabad. Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Mianwali and Khushab. And in Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad and Sahiwal. Rains will fall from August 17 to August 19 with occasional gaps.
Rains in Punjab Southern:
Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bhakkar will witness scattered monsoon rains with isolated heavy falls. Rains will fall in Layyah, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rajanpur and Rahimyar Khan, from August 18 to August 20 with occasional gaps.
Torrential rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, northeast Punjab, and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan. Downpour may cause urban flooding in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore and Sialkot.
Heavy rains and windstorms may damage dilapidated buildings and structures like electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels. Authorities issued advisory, urging public, travellers and tourists to avoid unusual exposure. “Do not go to vulnerable areas and keep updated about the latest weather conditions.”
Islamabad and Lahore’s maximum temperatures will likely remain between 35°C and 37°C on Monday and Tuesday.
Meanwhile, rains with isolated heavy falls occurred in Islamabad and parts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. Muggy weather prevailed elsewhere.
