Pakistan Floods: Gas Supply Disconnects to Thousands

Worst floods in parts of Pakistan have badly affected the gas supply to thousands of consumers in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) says it has restored supply in many areas. The company looks after gas infrastructure and supply network in the two provinces and northern areas. The SSGC (Sui Southern Gas Company) is supply gas to domestic, commercial and industrial consumers of Sindh and Balochistan.

Ongoing floods have badly affected the overall infrastructure in Punjab, KP and northern belt of Pakistan, including electricity and gas supplies to millions of consumers.

The SNGPL said on Friday it restored gas supply to thousands in upper parts of Punjab and KP districts.

Affected Areas:

The company spokesperson said it resorted supply to consumers Swat, Mardan, Sialkot, Rawalpindi, Gujrat and other parts. “The floods have affected 7,480 meters in different areas.”

“The SNGPL teams have restored gas supply to 90 percent consumers in Mardan region.”

The company, added the spokesperson, has restored gas supply to 47,000 customers in Swat and Dir. Total 48,000 consumers affected in the area, said the SNGPL spokesperson. It successfully restored 25km long affected network in Swat.

It said that floods completely damaged the gas infrastructure and 200 service lines in Bangladesh (Swat), Mullah Baba, Landi Kas and Makan Bagh.

“The SNGPL teams are working continuously for infrastructure’s rehabilitation and gas restoration in area.”

The SNGPL spokesperson further said the teams would restore gas supply to Sialkot areas once the floodwaters recede. It said the floods have affected the gas supply to 2,000 consumers in Sialkot.

Meanwhile, the SNGPL Managing Director Amer Tufail has issued instruction to teams to stand vigilant. He directed the teams to ensure their round the availability in the flood affected areas. He also appreciated the teams for their hardworking and restoration of quick gas supply in flood affected areas under SNGPL limits.
