Monsoon’s 11th Spell to Begin in Pakistan on September 16

Monsoon rain-wind/thunderstorms are likely in parts of Pakistan on September 16 and onward.

The 11th spell of monsoon rains will likely continue intermittently till September 19.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, moist currents of moderate intensity from the Arabian Sea penetrate the upper parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave may  approach the upper parts of Pakistan on September 15. The wave, Met Office says, will  persist till September 19.

Under these conditions, intermittent monsoon rains with isolated heavy rains may fall in parts of Pakistan from September 16 to September 19.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:

Met office predicts intermittent rain-wind/thunderstorms in Dir, Chitral, Swat and Kohistan. In Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur and Mohmand. And in Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Hangu, Karak and Waziristan.

Kashmir/ Gilgit-Baltistan:

Metrological Department predicts scattered rain-wind/thundershowers in Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad and Rawalakot. In Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur. Rains will fall in these areas from 15th (evening/night) to 19th September with occasional gaps. Met office predicts isolated heavy falls in the above said areas on 16th & 18th September. Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar) will witness isolated rain-wind/thunderstorm during the said period.

Punjab/Islamabad:

On September 18 and September 19: Intermittent rain-wind/thundershowers may fall in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum. Met office predicted rains in Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore and Kasur. And in Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Faisalabad. Met office also predicted isolated heavy falls in the areas during the period.

Sindh/Balochistan:

Mainly dry weather is expected in most parts of the provinces.

Impacts:

Windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning can damage weak structures, including electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels. Landslides are likely in vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir.

Heavy rainfall may increase flows in local nullahs/streams of Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi and Kashmir. Public, travellers/tourists are advised to avoid unusual exposure to vulnerable areas and keep updated about the latest weather conditions.
