The National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGC) has taken comprehensive measures to ensure uninterrupted power transmission in Lahore during the Basant festival.
The spokesperson for the company said on Friday that NGC will ensure smooth power supply in provincial metropolis from February 06 to 08, 2026.
In this regard, the statement said, NGC management has issued necessary directives to ensure swift response to any untoward incident during the festivities.
In light of the directions issued by DMD (AD&M), Engr. Rasheed A. Bhutto, NGC’s emergency response teams will remain fully prepared and available round the clock. The availability of technical staff, vehicles and safety equipment will be ensured at all times. Transmission lines and grid stations in Lahore will be closely monitored to promptly address any technical issues.
Managing Director NGC, Engr. Altaf Hussain Malik, stated that the Punjab Govt has permitted Basant celebrations under strict rules and regulations. He emphasized that Basant is a festival of joy and recreation and appealed to the public to strictly follow SOPs during the festivities to safeguard their lives, property & national assets and to refrain from any activity that could damage the power transmission system or grid stations.
He further assured that National Grid Company will ensure uninterrupted power transmission system in Lahore and surrounding areas during Basant. The public is urged to take care of their own and others’ lives & property, and to ensure the protection of national installations while celebrating Basant.
Preparations for Basant Festival:
Meanwhile preparations are in full swing across the city for three-day Basant festival.
Urban transport services have decorated in the buses and announced free travel facilities during the celebrations. The transport authorities have decorated 35 Speedo and green electric buses with cultural themes. They announced free travel in Lahore on the metro bus, Orange Line, Speedo and electric bus services during the festival.
The district administration has also directed that kites must not carry religious, political, personal or national flag imagery. A zero-tolerance policy will be enforced against the use of metallic strings and prohibited chemicals.
The authorities claim implementation of the Kite Flying Act 2025 is aimed at ensuring safe and peaceful recreation during Basant.
