Punjab chief minister Maryam Nawaz has granted approval for the launch of the “Chief Minister Punjab Disease Prevention Programme.”
It aimed at curbing the spread of major diseases across the province. The programme will focus on prevention of diabetes, tuberculosis (TB), AIDS and hepatitis. The authorities will also launch province-wide public awareness campaign to educate citizens about life-threatening illnesses.
The provincial government has taken the decision during a special meeting. Maryam chaired the meeting. Secretary Health and Population Nadia Saqib gave a detailed briefing. The meeting decided that the government will initiate a comprehensive awareness drive across Punjab. The chief minister will personally lead the campaign.
The authorities informed the CM that the campaign would raise public awareness regarding prevention and treatment of deadly diseases. Ms Sharif directed authorities to take necessary measures to control such illnesses and ensure implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) in public hospitals. Particularly, she added, the authorities should take measures to prevent epidemic and rapidly spreading diseases.

She also instructed the Healthcare Commission to monitor implementation of health SOPs in private hospitals and clinics. And ordered strict legal action against quack clinics across the province.
The chief minister emphasised that creating public awareness about prevention of fatal and infectious diseases stands essential. She added that early recognition of symptoms is crucial. And that medics should give patients not only treatment but also hope for life.
Meanwhile,Punjab chief minister Maryam Nawaz has formally inaugurated the Punjab Police Pakistan App. It enables citizens to report the loss of essential documents from the comfort of their homes. Through this app, citizens can register reports for lost identity cards, passports, driving licenses. And other important documents without visiting a police station or service center. Upon submission, the department will deliver loss report to the applicant at home.
