Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has said that meaningful negotiations are the only solution to the ongoing crisis in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
He urged the government to avoid the use of force and engage with the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC).
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, he said Jamaat-e-Islami had accepted the role of mediator between the government and JAAC to help restore trust and prevent further unrest.
He said the JAAC had expressed confidence in Jamaat-e-Islami and postponed its long march, sending a positive message. “Now the government should also move forward and start negotiations to address the genuine demands of the people,” he added.
The JI chief warned that the AJK situation should not be allowed to reach a point where it benefits India’s propaganda against Pakistan and the Kashmir cause. He said violence, bloodshed and the use of state force could not resolve the issue.
Jamaal-e-Islami Mediation on Azad Kashmir Issue:
He said Jamaat-e-Islami’s mediation efforts were within Pakistan’s constitutional and national framework. “The door for dialogue is still open, and we are ready to facilitate the process,” he said.
Rehman added that JI leaders had been in contact with different stakeholders. “Efforts were being made to bring both sides closer for a peaceful resolution.”
The JI Emir said no anti-Pakistan narrative should emerge from AJK. He urged all stakeholders to avoid steps that could create further instability.
He also called for uninterrupted supply of essential goods to AJK, saying restrictions would only increase difficulties for ordinary citizens.
Regarding elections in AJK, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said polls should be held on time. But, he added, a successful dialogue process and restoration of normal conditions would help ensure a peaceful and credible electoral environment.
Those who attended the press conference included JI AJK Emir Dr. Mushtaq Khan and former AJK Emir Dr. Khalid Mahmood. And JI Pakistan Deputy Secretary General Syed Farasat Shah and Islamabad Emir Nasrullah Randhawa.
