An earthquake struck Lahore and adjoining areas on Saturday evening, prompting residents to rush out of their homes and buildings in panic.
Earthquake tremors felt in Punjab capital and other parts of the province at evening around 6:30pm.
Meanwhile, magnitude of earthquake was recorded 5.9. The epicentre was Hindu Kush Region of Afghanistan, according to initial reports.
Social media posts suggest people in in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mansehra, Shangla, Swat felt jolts. Similarly, residents in Chakwal, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, Okara Jhang and Lahore also felt shocks. However, they so far have not reported any loss of life.
Initial official reports also suggest no loss of life or property due to the earthquake. However, relevant authorities were engaged in inspecting buildings.
Any earthquake-related damage could be reported to the PDMA (Provincial Disaster Management Authority) helpline 1129. The PDMA’s provincial control room and district emergency operation centres across Punjab remain operational round the clock.
