Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the design of the Gujranwala Mass Transit System.
She directed that every area of Gujranwala be connected to the metro train through feeder buses. To ease traffic flow, engineers will construct two tunnel sections in the project. She has granted approval for 17 to 19 kilometres of the transit line to run underground.
The meeting has decided that authorities will install solar systems at every station and depot. Punjab CM made the decisions during a meeting. Authorities gave her a detailed briefing on the project.
The mass transit system will hold the capacity to facilitate travel for 2.6 million passengers in Gujranwala. Spanning 31.5 kilometres from Gakhar to Aimanabad, the meeting has set the completion timeline of 12 months.
The authorities will construct 24 stations, including two underground stations. They will establish depots at Gharjakh, Chand Da Qila and Gondlanwala.
Additionally, the contractors will develop a 62-kilometre-long drainage system along both sides of the transit corridor. The government will set up a dedicated command and control centre for the project.
The chief minister said the Gujranwala Mass Transit System would transform the city’s transport culture. It will serve as a modern, efficient commuting facility for its residents, she said.
Meanwhile, More than 1.6 million people have benefited from the Ration Card, Himmat Card and Minority Card under Punjab Social Protection Programme, claimed Punjab government.
According to details, over 100,000 special persons have received financial assistance through the Chief Minister Punjab Himmat Card. The government said it will provide support to 0.2 million individuals under the programme during the current fiscal year. More than 1.4 million people are receiving monthly financial assistance through the Ration Card across Punjab.
Under the Minority Card, one lakh underprivileged minority individuals are receiving Rs10,500 on a quarterly basis. Additionally, the department provided with wheelchairs and 16 types of assistive devices under a special programme to over 16,000 individuals.
