WAPDA Chairman Lt Gen (rtd) Muhammad Saeed Thursday visited Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project.
Water and Power Development Authority is constructing the project across River Swat in Mohmand District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Member Water Asim Rauf Khan accompanied him. During the visit, the Chairman reviewed construction activities at key sites, with particular focus on the Main Dam and Power House.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman WAPDA has declared the Mohmand Dam as a strategic national project. It will augment Pakistan’s water, food and energy security, he said. He also directed WAPDA’s Project Team, Consultants and Contractors to enhance momentum of construction works, adhere to the technical benchmarks, best quality standards, and ensure timely completion of the project. He reiterated that delivering this project on time remains critical to Pakistan’s long-term goals for sustained growth and economic stability.
Earlier, the Chairman WAPDA presided over a progress review meeting with the Board of Management, Mohmand Dam Consulting Group and the Contractors at the Project Office.
Mohmand Dam is a multi-purpose project. Upon completion, it will store 1.29 MAF (Gross storage) of water for irrigation. It will mitigate floods in Charsadda, Mardan and Nowshera. And it will supply 300 million gallons per day of drinking water to Peshawar. The project will generate 800 MW electricity and provide 2.86 billion units of clean and affordable hydel electricity to the National Grid annually.

The position of the river inflows and outflows at Tarbela, Mangla and Chashma along with the reservoirs levels and the barrages today is as follows:

Khairabad Bridge: Inflows 261900 cusecs and Outflows 261900 cusecs. Jhelum at Mangla: Inflows 25100 cusecs and Outflows 8400 cusecs. Chenab at Marala: Inflows 69000 cusecs and Outflows 45200 cusecs.
Barrages: Jinnah: Inflows 357600 cusecs and Outflows 349300 cusecs. Chashma: Inflows: 275700 cusecs and Outflows 256900 cusecs. Taunsa: Inflows 217400 cusecs and Outflows 196500 cusecs. Tarbela: Minimum operating level 1402 feet, present level 1550 feet, maximum conservation level 1550 feet, live storage today 5.580 MAF.
Mangla: Minimum operating level 1050 feet, present level 1220.90 feet, maximum conservation level 1242 feet, live storage today 5.649 MAF.
Chashma: Minimum operating level 638.15 feet, present level 648.50 feet, maximum conservation level 649 feet, live storage today 0.285 MAF.
