WAPDA and District Administration Diamer have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Diamer Basha Dam Project.
Both sides signed the MoU for implementation of livelihood schemes worth Rs. 972.571 million in the Project area. WAPDA said it signed the MoU under Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) by WAPDA.
General Manager/PD Diamer Basha Dam Project Dr. Engr. Nazakat Hussain and Deputy Commissioner Diamer Lt Muhammad Owais Abbasi (Retd) signed the MoU. Chief Secretary Gilgit Baltistan Mr. Arshad Majeed also attended the event.
As per the terms of the MoU, the livelihood schemes will be implemented through the line departments concerned under the supervision of the District Administration, in consultation with the local community. A Joint Committee, comprising representatives of the District Administration, WAPDA, and the local community, will oversee the quality of work and implementation of the schemes.
It is pertinent to mention that WAPDA earmarked Rs. 78.5 billion for socio-economic uplift of the people in the Project area under Diamer Basha Dam Project. A number of mega development schemes have already been completed including Thore Hydel Power Station, Thak Hydel Power Station and Cadet College Chilas etc.

The position of the river inflows and outflows at Tarbela, Mangla and Chashma along with the reservoirs levels and the barrages today is as follows:

Reservoirs (Level and Storage):
Tarbela: Minimum operating level 1402 feet, present level 1491.38 feet, maximum conservation level 1550 feet, live storage today 2.564 MAF.
Mangla: Minimum operating level 1050 feet, present level 1168.35 feet, maximum conservation level 1242 feet, live storage today 2.497 MAF.
Chashma: Minimum operating level 638.15 feet, present level 647.90 feet, maximum conservation level 649 feet, live storage today 0.253 MAF.
The inflows and outflows of River Indus at Tarbela, Jinnah and Chashma, River Kabul at Nowshera and River Jhelum at Mangla have been reflected as mean flows of 24 hours, whereas the other flows have been gauged at 6.00 a.m.
